Willkommen auf meiner Fotografieseite [english Version below].
Entgegen dem Trend in der Fotografenszene kann ich leider kein Genre angeben, auf das ich mich motivisch festgelegt habe. Ich könnte auch sagen: Ich fotografiere, was mir vor die Linse kommt. Aber das stimmt so auch nicht genau. Ich bin mir auch nicht sicher, ob ich „meinen Stil“ gefunden habe. Deshalb zäume ich das Pferd mal von hinten auf und schildere, womit ich mich aktuell besonders befasst habe und welche Fotografinnen und Fotografen mich in letzter Zeit inspiriert haben.
Sehr viele meiner Aufnahmen entstehen auf Reisen. Dabei bemühe ich mich, das festzuhalten, was mich an diesen jeweiligen Orten besonders beeindruckt hat oder Gefühle hervorrief. Oft sind unsere Trips angefangen von Wanderungen in unserer Umgebung der Schwäbischen Alb bis zu Fernreisen auch mit Outdoor-Erlebnissen verbunden. Einige Inspirationsquellen möchte ich dazu nennen: Das ist zum einen Chris Eyre-Walker, Roman Fox, James Popsys und Anthony Lamb. Alle haben sowohl von den Motiven wie auch von der Gestaltung ihrer Bilder eine sehr unterschiedliche Art zu fotografieren, die mich aber jeweils in ihrer besonderen Art fasziniert.
Viele meiner Aufnahmen der letzten Jahre entstanden auch bei den Dreharbeiten zu den Dokus über die Restauration von alten Porsche Rennwagen. Von der Firma Orca Restoration GmbH in Nussdorf war ich beauftragt, die Restauration dieser automobilistischen Raritäten filmisch und fotografisch festzuhalten, was letztlich dazu führte, dass ich die Webseite der Firma gestaltete. Diese Bilder sind häufig in einem dokumentarisch-sachlichen Stil gehalten; allerdings bemühte ich mich in aller Regel, die besondere Atmosphäre in der Werkstatt und bei den Probefahrten festzuhalten. Mein großes Vorbild für Fotos in diesen Genre ist unzweifelhaft Amy Shore. Sie versteht es meisterhaft, das besondere Flair dieser Szene fotografisch festzuhalten.
Nun ja, und dann kommen Versuche im urbanen Bereich und experimentelle Fotografie dazu. Ernst Haas, Saul Leiter, Gueorgui Pinkhassov und im ganz anderen Stil Alex Webb und Peter Lindbergh sind dabei eine unerschöpfliche Quelle von Inspirationen – für meine fotografischen Fähigkeiten allerdings wohl unerreichbar. Aber warum nicht zu den Sternen greifen?

Bucking the trend, I unfortunately cannot name a single specific subject area to which I have strictly confined myself. I could simply say: I photograph whatever crosses my path. But that wouldn’t be entirely accurate, either. So, I’ll approach this from a different angle—starting from the end, so to speak—and describe what I’ve been focusing on most recently, as well as the photographers who inspire me.
A great many of my shots are taken while traveling. In doing so, I strive to capture whatever particularly impressed me—or evoked strong emotions—at those specific locations. Our trips—ranging from local hikes in our home region, the Swabian Alb, to long-distance journeys—often involve outdoor adventures. I’d like to mention three sources of inspiration in this regard: Chris Eyre-Walker, Roman Fox, James Popsys, and Julia Nimke. All three possess very distinct photographic styles—both in terms of subject matter and composition—yet each fascinates me in their own unique way.
Many of the images I’ve taken over the last few years were created during the filming of documentaries chronicling the restoration of vintage Porsche racing cars. I was commissioned by Orca Restoration GmbH in Nussdorf to document the restoration of these automotive rarities through both film and photography—a project that ultimately led to my designing the company’s website. These images are often executed in a documentary, matter-of-fact style; however, I generally made a conscious effort to capture the unique atmosphere of the workshop and the test drives. My greatest role model for photography in this field is undoubtedly Amy Shore; she possesses a masterful ability to visually capture the distinct flair of this scene.
Well, and then come forays into the urban realm and experimental photography. Ernst Haas, Saul Leiter, Gueorgui Pinkhassov—and, in a completely different style, Alex Webb and Peter Lindbergh—serve as inexhaustible sources of inspiration; though their level remains beyond the reach of my own photographic abilities—but why not reach for the stars?
