Nordjütland

Vendsyssel – so nennen die Bewohner das Gebiet im nördlichste Teil Jütlands. Obwohl in unseren Ohren in diesem Namen immer das Wort „Wind“ nachklingt, hat die Bezeichnung nichts damit zu tun. In Wirklichkeit bezeichnete der Begriff „Syssel“ eine Verwaltungseinheit, die im Mittelalter in Teilen Skandinaviens Anwendung fand. Aber unsere Assoziation mit Wind ist nicht zufällig. Wind begleitet uns immer, wenn wir uns hier bewegen. Mal kommt er von Norden oder Nordwesten und bringt dann oft schönes Wetter mit sich. Wenn der Wind aus Süden kommt, frischt er oft zum Sturm auf und mitunter regnet es dann auch kräftig. Seit fast 20 Jahren fasziniert uns diese Gegend und zusammengerechnet haben wir schon 7 Monate hier verbracht. Und doch entdecken wir jedes Mal Neues.

Vendsyssel – that’s what the inhabitants call the area in the northernmost part of Jutland. Although the word „wind“ always resonates in our ears in this name, the name has nothing to do with it. In reality, the term „Syssel“ refers to an administrative unit that was used in parts of Scandinavia in the Middle Ages. But our association with wind is not accidental. Wind is always with us when we move around here. Sometimes it comes from the north or north-west and often brings fine weather with it. When the wind comes from the south, it often freshens up into a storm and sometimes it rains heavily. We have been fascinated by this region for almost 20 years and have already spent a total of 7 months here. And yet we discover something new every time.
